TESTS of FUNCTIONAL DIAGNOSTICS

Image description In base of functional diagnostic in sports medicine there are different physical load tests. These tests are carried out by sports doctor for person’s physical work capacity and the estimation and assessment of fitness level and giving recommendations.

Sports achievements depend on 3 major body systems which limit possibility to do or to continue physical load and these 3 systems have to work together simultaneously and effectively:
1. the cardiovascular system – provides blood supply and oxygen transport
2. the breathing system – provides oxygen uptaking and carbon dioxide elimination out of the body
3. the body muscles which are involved in physical work with muscle weakness, pain, energy reserve and the activity of ferments systems.
The physical work capacity and the functional abilities of the body mostly limit the functional possibilities of the cardiovascular system and the breathing system.

Functional diagnostic can be done for reasons:
■ Evaluate heart and lung function
■ Identify unexplained shortness of breath
■ Detect and evaluate heart diseases or failure
■ Aid in developing an exercise program (the reasons of testing please look below)

One of the modernest funcional diagnostics method in sports medicine and available at SPORTS LABORATORY is Complex cardiopulmonary exercise testing »»»

Complex cardiopulmonary exercise testing

Image descriptionComplex cardiopulmonary exercise testing = Veloergometry or treadmill test with breathing gases analysis and pulse oximetry
It is now the 'gold standard' for evaluation of the function of cardiovascular and breathing systems, the physical work capacity of the body. The physical work capacity and the functional abilities of the body mostly limit the functional possibilities of these two systems of the body.
Complex cardiopulmonary exercise testing is a modern and objective method of evaluating the functions of cardiovascular and breathing systems during the rest and the increase physical load, the recovery time and it is totally non-invasive method.
This method allows estimating person’s real health condition, fitness level; providing individually optimal physical load; giving full information for activity or sports training regime recommendations and assessing potential possibilities of the body in the future.

Another the modernest funcional diagnostics method available at SPORTS LABORATORY is metabolism testing or Calorimetry »»»

CALORIMETRY

Image description Image description Calorimetry is efficient and accurate metabolism analysis method which measures the energy expenditure during the rest and increase physical load.
The goal of this method is to assess necessary energy for the body function ensuring; during the daily activities and the different physical activities. It is based on precise gas volume and concentration measurements of the breathing system.
Metabolism in the body pass in the oxidation process and each kind of nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats) give fixed amount of energy. During the test there is estimated the rest energy expenditure and the physical load intensity in which the energy processes of the body involve mostly fat reserve.
For the body weight correction Calorimetry allows to estimate of optimal physical load, training intensity and frequency according to the person’s health condition and metabolism intensity.

REMEDIAL GYMNASTIC

Image description Specialist assesses joints and muscle functions, restrictions of movements, leads suitable complex of remedial gymnastics for the full rehabilitation after a trauma, surgery or disease, the improvement of poise and the development of movement coordination.
Gymnastic is suitable for adults with or without health problems (back problems, overweight, heart or breathing system diseases, etc.); children with poise problems (back, legs and feet, overweight). We also offer special gymnastic for elder people, for pregnant women and new mothers with babies.
You could attend remedial gymnastic regularly in our sports hall individually or in a group; or come 3 – 5 times and learn gymnastic complex for individual practise at home.
· Individual or group gymnastic
· Complex of remedial gymnastic

SPORTS TRAINING

Image description Sports coach leads sports training with different intensity of physical load, gives individually optimal physical load for the elevation of each person’s fitness level and the functional abilities of the body, the development of movement coordination, the strengthening of the body muscles.
Training has 2 parts: outside warming up and endurance training and inside gymnastic training. We also offer the individual exercise plan of health improvement and the optimal physical load, to be more suitable for health condition.

MASAGE

Image description Massage for hasten recovery after daily stress and physical fatigue, regulation of muscles tone and pain release. · General massage – classical, sports, tonic, relax · Segment massage – head, shoulders, full back, abdomen, hands or legs zone.

MUSCLE TESTING

Sports laboratory specialist makes the analyses of the person’s poise and gait; the symmetry of the body skeleton; the functionality of the body muscles and joints; the estimation of pain or motion restriction reasons.

Anthropometric measurements

Specialist estimate and assess person’s weight, height and its correlation, body mass index, various circuit and longitudinal measurements of the body and extremities.

Balanced food plan

Image description We help to estimate the currently eating habits and the level of daily activities; to work out rational and balanced food plan and inspire to change eating habits and start individually suitable activity.
For best results we suggest to combine with Calorimetry go to »»»

COLLABORATION PARTENERS

Sports laboratory has good cooperation with the specialists of Traumatology surgery and Medical diagnostic.
We cooperate with traumatologists, neurologists, diagnostic specialists and follow to each patient's needs.

ARTHROSCOPIC SURGERY

Arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure used to exam and treatment of damaged joints.
Types of procedures include torn floating cartilage, torn surface cartilage, anterior crucial ligament (ACL) reconstruction, and trimming damaged cartilage. An arthroscope is inserted into the joint through a small incision.
One advantage of arthroscopic surgery over traditional open surgery is that the joint does not have to be fully opened. Several small incisions are made - for the arthroscope and for surgical instruments. For the incisions are small there are fewer traumas to the connective tissue. Often, recovery time is reduced and there is less scarring than with conventional surgery.
Shoulders: Specialists use state of the art techniques for shoulder repair including arthroscopically performed surgery, double row rotator cuff repairs and instability reconstructions.
Knees: Specialists use minimally invasive ACL reconstruction techniques performed on an outpatient basis. They use the most advanced bioabsorbable implants and offer both patellar tendon and hamstring repairs.

MEDICAL IMAGING (RADIOLOGY)

Sports laboratory offers the most advanced diagnostic imaging technology at multiple testing locations.
All diagnostic imaging systems are digital: X-ray, Ultrasound, CT or MRI.
Please call to Sports laboratory +37167523042 or +37126557425.

ULTRASOUND DIAGNOSTIC

Ultrasound is a non-invasive, diagnostic imaging modality that utilizes high frequency sound waves to evaluate various internal organs, joints and display the anatomy in a cross-sectional format.
Ultrasound gel is then applied to the transducer and the transducer glides over the skin, imaging the various internal organs and joints. Although a protocol is followed for each ultrasound examination performed, each procedure is customized to fit to particular patient's needs and designed to answer the referring physician's concerns.
We offer a full range of joints ultrasound examinations. These scans are performed and interpreted by Certified Ultrasound specialists.

MAGNETIC RESONANSE IMAGING (MRI)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging is one of the best non-invasive diagnostic tools, capturing the clearest possible pictures of the inner workings of the human anatomy.
MRI technology uses magnetic fields and radiowaves to generate detailed computerized three dimensional images of many different parts of the body including the brain and spine, bones, joints, blood vessels, abdominal organs, chest and heart. It is also sensitive to soft tissue and provides detailed evaluations of lesions and inflammations.
Each exam is appropriate to answer specific questions about patient's medical condition. The procedure time depends upon the area of the body being examined. Most MRI exams typically take 30 to 60 minutes. The procedure is safe and there is no radiation involved. When the exam is complete, all images and information are examined by certified radiologists. Results are usually available to the referring physician within 2-4 working days since the procedure.
Before having an MRI private dressing areas are available for changing.
Patients with implanted medical devices containing ferrous metal (objects containing iron) can't be brought into the MRI Unit (e.g. pacemakers, cochlear implants, cerebral aneurysm clips, and prosthetic devices). Makeup should not be worn during the MRI, because certain mascaras and eye shadows contain metal particles which could interfere with the scan.
